As previously mentioned Stornaway is effectively closed on a Sunday. Indeed apart from the odd tourist the streets are deserted. All the shops and supermarkets are closed with just the odd restaurant open for lunch.
Stornaway is our furthest point North away from Lymington and tomorrow we head East and slightly South to Gairloch on the West mainland. Not to be confused with The Gairloch that is a large sea loch in the Clyde estuary. From there we will come South past the Skye bridge and work out our further passage South depending upon the weather.
To this point we have sailed 817 miles and really apart from being holed up in Tobermory for 4 we have made good time.
One attraction in Stornaway that is open is the Lews Castle. This Victorian building sits grandly above the inner harbour entrance and having fallen into complete disrepair has recently been refurbished into apartments with gardens and other points of interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lews_Castle
